According to MSV Community Programs Manager Autumn Gray, thanks to the sponsorship of Navy Federal Credit Union, admission is free to all active military personnel and their families and individual veterans (id required). Admission to Gardens at Night is free to MSV Members and ages 12 and under (JOIN the MSV). The ticket price for all others, which includes the concert and admission to the MSV’s seven-acre gardens and exhibitions, is $10. The summer concert series is also sponsored by Shenandoah Country Q102.
A popular Shenandoah Valley musician and award-winning entertainer who mixes solo and band appearances with acting and singing roles at professional theaters, Robbie Limon has been part of the Valley’s music scene for more than a decade. He has recorded six CDs and portrayed, to great acclaim, both Hank Williams Sr. and Buddy Holly in professional theatres across the United States. A musician who brings his love of 1970s-era songwriters to each performance, Limon and his band will play an eclectic mix of music by the Eagles, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doobie Brothers, and more during its MSV concert.
Along with live music, Gardens at Night features free family activities. From 6 to 8 p.m. children may play a variety of lawn games, including hula hoops, cornhole, and a giant Jenga set.
Throughout the evening, attendees may experience the seven-acre Glen Burnie Gardens and explore the MSV galleries. Recently opened exhibitions include Tiffany Glass: Painting with Color and Light and Steinlen: Cats, an exhibition of feline-themed works by Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. A traveling exhibition presenting lamps and windows made by the famous Tiffany Studios, Tiffany Glass: Painting with Color and Light is organized by the Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass, Queens, New York.
Those attending Gardens at Night at the MSV also may purchase food and drinks at the event. The Roaming Bistro (see menu), Skrimp Shack (see menu), Sexi Mexi (see menu), and Shaffer’s BBQ (see menu) food trucks will be at Gardens at Night. Chick-fil-A (see menu) and My Buddy’s Nuts will also be at the event selling meals and gourmet nuts and snacks ($5–12). Adult beverages available for purchase include wine from Frederick County’s James Charles Winery & Vineyard (whites: Sauvignon Blanc & Riesling; red: Arrivato 1913; $5/glass or $25/bottle), beer from Winchester Brew Works (Paddle Boat Pilsner and Happy Trails Session IPA; 12 oz. pour; $7), and hard cider from Winchester Cider Works (Malice, 522, and Va-Ginga). Water will also be available for purchase ($1). No outside food or drinks will be permitted in the concert area.
The gates will open for seating at 5:30 p.m. and the gardens, galleries, and food trucks/drink stations will open at 6 p.m. The music will begin at 7 p.m. The concert will take place on the lawn by the MSV. All those who plan to listen to the musical performance should bring their own chairs. The concert will take place outdoors rain/shine and attendees should dress for the weather.
Following June’s concert, Gardens at Night will take place on July 12, August 9, and September 13. In July, Soul Expressions will perform Motown, funk, and today’s hits. The Return will play the best of the Beatles during the August event, and September’s concert will feature the Eagles tribute band Alter Eagles.
