Explore the fantastical worlds created by Ben Hatke and David Kiefer in this exhibition that examines artists as storytellers.
David Kiefer is an illustrator and storyteller whose work explores how we see the world around us through the lens of imagination. He shares glimpses of some of Winchester’s sights and wildlife in this collection, My Imagination Followed Me Here, and invites the viewer to provide the rest of the story themselves. Using a combination of printmaking, watercolor, and ink, David’s process is an exercise in understanding each of these materials and their unique advantages and challenges.
Ben Hatke is the author and Illustrator of over a dozen books including the #1 New York Times bestselling Zita the Spacegirl trilogy, and the Eisner Award-winning Little Robot. The images on display here are selections of original artwork from his book Julia’s House Goes Home. Working in watercolor and ink, Ben creates fantastical worlds and the creatures who inhabit them, often finding inspiration in folklore and other storytelling traditions.
