Rembrandt and His Contemporaries

Last year marked the 350^th anniversary of the death of Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669), a highly influential and innovative Dutch painter and printmaker. On view at the MSV through March 8, 2020, Rembrandt and His Contemporaries: Prints from the Dutch Golden Age presents nearly 60 Dutch etchings that help tell the story of the production of prints in seventeenth century Holland, viewed by art historians as one of the most innovative periods in the history of printmaking. Featuring works depicting scenes from everyday life, landscapes, allegories, religious works, and figure studies, this exhibition includes more than a dozen works by or after Rembrandt and additional works by master printmakers.
