November 19, 2016 – September 9, 2018
On view from late 2016 through 2018, This Must Be the Place: The Art of Landscape presented works drawn from the collection of MSV benefactor Julian Wood Glass Jr. (1910–1992). The exhibition focused on the real and imagined places that have captured the attention and imagination of artists, travelers, and viewers over the course of three centuries. The exhibition included images of Italy, seascapes, scenes of France, paintings and drawings of sites in the United Kingdom, and paintings of the Americas. Made possible by support from the MSV Compass Society, This Must Be the Place included works by such distinguished artists as Francesco Guardi, Thomas Gainsborough, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, John Frederick Kensett, and Jasper Francis Cropsey.
This Must Be the Place was made possible in part by the extraordinary support of the Compass Society.
