See what’s usually behind the scenes at the MSV in Curated Chaos: Collections Storage Unpacked. With more than 25,000 objects in its care, the MSV typically displays only a small fraction of its collection, while the rest remains safely tucked away in storage—until now.

During the installation of a new compact storage system, a fascinating selection of objects has been brought into the galleries for temporary display through November 30, 2025.

Opening March 1 in part of the MSV Changing Exhibitions Gallery, Curated Chaos features a display of more than 200 objects spanning centuries, styles, and continents. Highlights include Shenandoah Valley baskets, towering tall clocks, elegant 19th-century European and American chairs, and paintings ranging from Hudson River landscapes to a 1630 Dutch portrait.

Starting April 5, explore Uncurated Chaos in the Founders Gallery, where thousands of objects will be displayed as they are stored—on shelves, in cabinets, and more. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience the MSV collection like never before!
